Losing your sense of Direction

Demonstrate your trust in Me by sitting quietly in My Presence.  Put aside all that is waiting to be done, and refuse to worry about anything.  This sacred time together strengthens you and prepares you to face whatever the day will bring.  By waiting with Me before you begin the day’s activities, you proclaim the reality of My living Presence.  This act of faith—waiting before working—is noted in the spirit world, where your demonstration of trust weakens principalities and powers of darkness.

“The most effective way to resist evil is to draw near Me.  When you need to take action, I will guide you clearly through My Spirit and My Word.  The world is so complex and overstimulating that you can easily lose your sense of direction.  Doing countless unnecessary activities will dissipate your energy.  When you spend time with Me, I restore your sense of direction.  As you look to Me for guidance, I enable you to do less but accomplish more.”  Taken from “Jesus Calling” a 365-day devotional by Sarah Young for August 29.

These words resonated with me when I read them a couple of days ago.  I felt that you, dear reader, would also benefit from reading these words.  They are so true.  We often have our minds so focused on the problems of the upcoming day that we are already struggling with how we will tackle the situation as we walk out the door of our homes with anxiety-filled minds.  We begin another day of stressful living.  We dream for the day when we will be relieved of stress-filled days.  What we fail to see is that we have created our own stress by putting all our focus on these perceived problems.  Scientists have shown that of the things we stress about in our minds only a small percentage actually comes into fruition.  So we have activated the anxiety which cascades itself throughout our day needlessly.

If we started out the day in just a few minutes of quiet prayer and meditation we would accomplish more with less anxiety.  I found this simple secret in my life over 20 years ago.  I didn’t spend a tremendous amount of time praying in those days – but even giving God 10 or 15 minutes each morning allowed for a less stressful day.  Things seem to just manage themselves out through the course of the day. Having learned that I could have a virtually stress-free day everyday has only been the result of my giving more time to God.  Acknowledging that the answers are all there but I don’t have figure it all out, God does the figuring and provides the answers easily and sometimes through the most unexpected ways.

Too many times we think of prayer as something to consider in extreme situations only.  How wrong this misperception of prayer is.  Every time we speak to God it is a form of prayer.  The real question is how often do you talk to God?  I believe that for the majority of us it is rare or almost non-existent.  How could I make such a claim.  Look at what the world is dealing with these days.  Financial ruin, dependency on alcohol, drugs, food, sexual titillation, dealing with mental and physical maladies, etc, etc.  If we were all praying I could guarantee this world would not be in the state its in right now.  Instead we are all so preoccupied with what the other guy has or is doing versus how we are choosing to live our own lives.  We are all human so, therefore, we will never be perfect.  But I know life can be a whole lot better for a whole lot more people if we turned to God for the answers versus these other false forms of escape.

But, dear reader, you know that to have life change for you you need to choose to change how you deal with life.  These are all choices we each individually make every single day of our lives.  Each day is truly a new beginning.  What would you like to see change in your life today?
