Pay Attention to Me

Today is October 31, 2012 and we are reeling from the aftermath that is only now being uncovered from The Storm of the Century, Sandy.  As we on the West Coast observe from media the devastation inflicted on the Eastern shoreline and all the entire East Coast, our hearts go out to our fellow men and women who are facing lack of power, food, water and shelter in many cases.

I am sure many are wondering the imminent question:  WHY?  Why would God allow such devastation.  Why does this type of earthly devastation keep happening.  No one knows the real answer.  But, what came to mind to me today during my prayer work was that God has ways to get our attention.  On a very real personal basis, HE chooses to put us through trials of fire.  I, myself, experience this exactly four years ago and continued to live through the trial for more then a couple of years.  I didn’t feel like GOD was punishing me.  But, I did feel that HE was very much trying to get my attention.  HE forced me down on my knees (literally and figuratively) to pay attention to what HE wanted me to focus on.  This wasn’t exactly what I was paying attention to, but it was clear God had something else in mind for me.  HE had to make the “attention-getting” process severe enough for me to actually STOP everything I was so involved in and forced me to pay attention to what HE wanted from my life.

Maybe these bouts of “Mother Nature’s fury” are God’s way of getting us to pay attention to what we have lost focus on.  Maybe we have become too self-absorbed with the “ways of the world” that HE finally has said ENOUGH!  Have our behaviors become too destructive?  Have we lost sight of the only two requirements HE demands from us:  Love God above all things and love thy neighbor as you love yourself?  Has our collective consciousness lost sight of these commandments.  These are NOT suggestions.  These are God’s Laws.  If we choose to not follow them, to continually violate them in our individual and societal practices, what are the consequences of these violations? After All, GOD is Mother Nature in it’s most basic and powerful form.

Beyond rallying to help our fellow countrymen in the clean-up of this aftermath, we should also be examining our hearts to see if our behaviors need to be refocused to loving our fellow men and women.  Doing so in all times, good and bad.
